"Court of Excellence" Guidelines

The Athletic Hall of Fame will recognize outstanding athletes, coaches, and other outstanding individuals who have made significant contributions to Ballou’s athletic program. Each inductee will receive a plaque plate to be displayed in the “Court of Excellence” hallway of Ballou High School commemorating his/her contributions and/or achievements while participating in or working for the Ballou High School Athletic Program.

 

Athletes will become eligible seven years after graduating from Ballou, while coaches, administrators, volunteers and other individuals may become eligible after retirement from coaching or their involvement with the school.

 

The nominee must have made an outstanding contribution to his or her sport while attending Ballou. This may include recognition as All-District, All-Metro, All-American, Ballou school record holder, and other notable honors. The nominee must exemplify outstanding qualities of character and sportsmanship while representing Ballou and also throughout the years following graduation. The nominee should serve as a positive role model, worthy of being emulated by students, both current and in the future. In the event that an inducted individual becomes unworthy of this honor, they can be removed from the Hall of Fame.

 

The nomination form must be submitted to the Ballou Alumni Association where they shall be kept on file for five years. All nominations will cost $2 each. Nominees not selected may be reconsidered for a subsequent induction class. After five years, an individual may be renominated with a new nomination form. The Hall of Fame Committee will review all nominees by March 1 st of each year. This committee shall consist of at least 5 members to include (but not limited to) the current school principal (if not an alum of Ballou), current Athletic Director, the Ballou High School Alumni Association President (or designee), current or past coaches/athletic directors who have served or coached at least 5 head varsity athletic seasons at Ballou High School. The committee will meet annually and make selections for induction during a special designated athletic event.

 

The selection and induction into Ballou’s Athletic Hall of Fame shall be limited to no more than 5 individuals per year after the inaugural year of ten inductees.
